I have always been a wanderer. From a young age, I felt an indescribable pull towards the world outside of my bubble. My bubble, being where I grew up. I knew there was more to life for me than the same 2 restaurants and driving the same roads each day. 7 years, 50 states, 40 countries and thousands of miles later - I did exactly what young me spent years dreaming of. I knew I was “different” in the way that I simple hated sitting still - even in places I genuinely loved. I have lived abroad for 3 years now and love the Netherlands with my whole heart. Recently I made the incredibly difficult decision to relocate back to the US. After sitting with the decision for a month, I changed my mind and cancelled my flight out of fear for leaving what I’ve known and loved for most of my 20s. But even after changing my mind and being comfortable with that decision, the longing has returned. I wonder if stay in the Netherlands, if I will always feel this longing and what it truly means. My heart is in 2 places, and I don’t know what I’ll do about it, so naturally I compiled a collage of my favorite memories from my favorite places around the world. I get the comment “you’re so brave” quite frequently and honestly I don’t feel brave most of the time, because every big adventure I have taken on, I’ve done it with shaky hands as I pressed “book trip”. Or I’ve done it with tears in my eyes and doubts in my mind (looking at you Mt. Triglav!). But I’ve always pushed through the doubts and anxiety because I know what I want. I want a life full of adventure and memories and I’m willing to be wildly uncomfortable to make that happen. Social Media can portray a false image of fearlessness and ease for people’s accomplishments but truthfully I feel that most peoples experiences are just like mine. Just doing everything terrified 🫢
